LEPROSY RELIEF RURAL CENTRE(LRRC) is situated on the Salem – Bangalore National Highway,14 kilometres from Salem city (in Tamilnadu). The Centre was started in 1956 exclusively to attend tothe Leprosy afflicted persons ((Hanson’s disease). The Taluk of Omalur and a part of Mettur Taluk,comprising 409,646 population was entrusted to the care of the Centre for the elimination of Leprosy.By 1999, the incidence of Leprosy was reduced from 40/1000 to < 1/10,000 in the area of care ofthe Centre. It also cares Tuberculosis affected persons and it has a multi speciality hospital with 70beds.
