LEPROSY RELIEF RURAL CENTRE(LRRC) is situated on the Salem – Bangalore National Highway,  14 kilometres from Salem city (in Tamilnadu). The Centre was started in 1956 exclusively to attend to  the Leprosy afflicted persons ((Hanson’s disease). The Taluk of Omalur and a part of Mettur Taluk,  comprising 409,646 population was entrusted to the care of the Centre for the elimination of Leprosy.  By 1999, the incidence of Leprosy was reduced from 40/1000 to < 1/10,000 in the area of care of  the Centre. It also cares Tuberculosis affected persons and it has a multi speciality hospital with 70  beds.
