• Leprosy: The hospital continues to be part of the National Leprosy Eradication Programme. As such,it is in charge of the omalur and part of mettur taluk to treat Leprosy patients with ulcer and six districts for reconstructive surgery for those who are cured of Leprosy but are with deformities. As per this arrangement, the treatment, boarding and lodging, besides medicines and surgery are free for those referred by the government to the hospital.•Tuberculosis: The hospital is part of the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme and is in charge of 500,000 rural population around the city of Salem. It is the institution’s responsibility to detect TB affected persons and to treat with DOTS those diagnosed with TB.•As a member of the District Blindness Control Society (DBCS) , the hospital has been conducting free eye camps and performing cataract surgeries free of cost. Free camps and free surgeries were stopped since February, 2008.
